Flwrider “FRAME” Interview with Stijn:
“We catch up with Stijn Deferm, founder of Stijn Cycles, on his recent trip to Hong Kong to support the HK/Shenzhen Biennale which has helped bring cycling to the public eye.
An ex-Downhill mountain bike champion and having won the Belgium National downhill mountain bike championship 3 times, Stijn tells us about his biking/racing background, past projects and getting in/working in the bike industry for well over 10 years.
With so many generic bikes and brands emerging now, we ask him about his latest venture in building a strong bike brand, the fascination with going back to steel frames, using hi-end Columbus steel tubing and bringing back the old art of fillet brazing and using them in his Stijn Cycles.”
Just spotted this on the Belgian Kapaza online auction site. Here’s the ad.
This is the actual bycicle that Rik van Looy, aka the ‘Keizer van Herentals’, won the 1962 Paris-Roubaix with. This was his second win of the race as he had won it the year before. The man is a living legend and this bike is way cool if you ask me.
Flandria is now officialy back from the dead and have a super 2010 lineup going. My local bike dealer has the brand in store and they really look fine plus they have sharp pricing too! Check them out on their website too!
Tha caption states that you can ’save’ €2500 off the puchase price if you leave it in the museum for another five years:)
If only I was a rich man…

Hail to Flandria!

Suicidal!

Eddy Merckz by “the Misz”

The Misz was a minimal guitar-synth-world wave band. Back in the 80ies, in Gent, Belgium. They released 3 K7-albums, and can be found on numerous compilations. Their 2nd album “Eddy Merckz” is now – almost 25 years later – released on vinyl by Onderstroom Records in a limited edition of 300 copies. order your copy now on Onderstroom Records.
Beside the usual noise- and experimental-projects there were also great new-wave-bands like The Misz. Eddy Merckz is a good example for the extreme high quality of the 80’s cassette-culture-scene. Their very catchy sound is comparable to early Virgin Prunes with some more pop-appeal; fine harmonies and male/female singer made this band to remarkable milestone in european new-wave, although they unfortunately never reached a bigger audience. And “Eddy Merckz” is in my eyes their best work: politics and music found together…”
Limited to 300 copies pressed on high quality vinyl (160gr.) The first 69 copies will include a yellow screenprinted insert with a picture of Belgians greatest cycler Eddy Merckz.

Flanders colours on the move.
Last monday Stijn from Stijncycles joined us for a ride in Leuven.
Of course he showed off with his black beauty and explored the obstackles from
the local skatepark. More pictures from Stijns creation & action here.
